They say certain people enter your life for a reason, some for a lifetime, some for a season. Last week was a particularly tough one with the observance of the loss of my father in law, news that my one month old baby cousin had passed, and the usual day to day strife that accompanies living. Not having much money and not really being in the mood to go out anyway, I stayed in. On Saturday I started cleaning out my Gmail account and looking at notifications from Twitter. One email from Twitter notified me that the account belonging to daftdotcom liked a story on Paul Van Dyk I wrote for my blog You Betta Trance. Curious, I ventured to the profile and then went down the musical rabbit hole. daftdatcom is just the artist I needed to rediscover.

Formerly known as Schumi, Los Angeles producer daftdatcom is a self prescribed digital jedi and specializes in making disco edits and funk grooves, according to his Soundcloud. He lists his influences as Viceroy, The Knocks, Flight Facilities, Soliddisco, Alan Braxe, Breakbot, and one of my personal favorites, Louis La Roche. daftdatcom’s music brought a smile to my face and made my head bob after what had been a long, arduous week. His music reminded me that sometimes you have to get out of a rut by getting into a groove. Below is a collection of some of his tracks for you to put on if you need a pick me up, but do some stretches beforehand because you might find yourself experiencing a little Saturday night fever. Check out more of datcom’s work on his Soundcloud and follow him on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

I was listening to electronic dance music without even knowing it when I was listening to Jock Jams in the 90s. Fast forward to my senior year in high school and I had discovered Fatboy Slim. I have been listening to edm ever since and love writing about new sounds, good sounds, and the music that makes us move.
