One of the many hit singles from Above & Beyond’s Bigger Than All of Us album, “Quicksand (Don’t Go), has now come in the form as a batch of new remixes. And man are these filled with all the feels and then some! The Sultan + Shepard Remix takes us on a progressive melodic 4+ minute journey that’s every bit relaxing as it is powerful in that final minute. The Ciaran McAuley Remix gives us a beautiful old melodic Trance take, as the over arching melody of Quicksand begins to swiftly swell up into a sonic dreamscape once the drop hits. The Mark Sherry is one of the big standouts, as he seamlessly infuses his signature style of blending in both that classic Trance sound while still paying a worthy homage to the original track.
Now my personal favorite of this Remix EP, is none other than the Ben Nicky Remix. Not only was his a great rendition of Quicksand, but it was supercharged with not just an emotionally-driven build up, but a pulse-pounding, fist pumping, floor stomping drop that has had me play this on repeat dozens of times within the span of just a few days. It easily had me in my feels from first listen. Goosebumps and all. And if these weren’t enough to satiate your Quicksand fix, the extended versions are just as good, if not better! To see Above & Beyond continue to live up to their name in every sense of the word and to have Remix EPs such as these release are what continue to fuel my love of Trance both now and for years to come
