Over the weekend, founder and CEO of Burning Man Festival, Larry Harvey, passed away.
Harvey had suffered a massive stroke on April 4th and while having hopes of recovering, went peacefully in his San Francisco home with family members by his side on April 28th. He was 70 years old.
“Burning Man culture has lost a great leader and inspiring mind”, event CEO Marian Goodell said Saturday.
Founded in San Francisco in 1989 as a Summer Solstice bonfire ritual, Burning Man has grown into a multiday event dedicated to art, music and community, showcasing futuristic structures with state-of-the-art technology.
“The only person, the only type of person that wouldn’t like it here ultimately, that we’d recommend not to come, are intolerant people. They get irritated”. – Larry Harvey
