Fashion shows are so totally in

Mary here from The Department of Dance!

This past friday I hosted my first event! Not a typical “EDM DJ club come dance and get smashed”, but I hosted my very own fashion show!

Event planning is not easy, especially when it is your very first one. Being the host AND having to sew all my own designs to show off… things got very stressful. I had a model volunteer form and I had to get all my models to meet with me so I could size them and style them. PLUS I had another designer who was under my wing and showing off her own collection there too.

My show was hosted at Karma Lounge, at 5th & Congress in Austin, Texas. I had our models walk through the VIP section, step up to walk across a table/counter, step down and walk around the bar and back up to our makeshift changing room. The show went fairly well! Our crowd was composed of many parents and friends, not the biggest crowd, but we sufficed, it’s only the first one!

We had DJ Carlitos, of smallbox productions, spinning some deep house to showcase our collections.

Special shoutout and thanks to Joey, Nathan, Mikaela, and Taishi of Small-b0x productions for helping me throw this event and helping me secure a venue, a time, and advice.

Also special shoutout to Peter and Suzette Karma Lounge for hosting our event!

Thank you to my friend Alexis for being our Stage Manager and Announcer!

I briefly set up an Etsy account with my designs, I haven’t finished it, but the bare bones are in.

Sorry for all the Links! I wanted to make sure everyone is appropriately credited. I definitely learned a lot about hosting events, and how to start my own business. I plan to grow my designs and have more people know about them and want to come out. Enough of the reflection, I’ve developed as a person and can’t wait for the next event!

Peace Out
