Daft Punk took to social media earlier today to post a video titled “Epilogue,” announcing their break up after a 28 year partnership. At right under 8 minutes, the video shows the pair walking in an arid, desert environment, an excerpt from the pair’s 2006 film, Electroma. One stops while the other continues walking. The two eventually find themselves back together, staring at the other intently. Much is said without the two exchanging a word.
Towards the end of the video, 1993-2021 appears, indicating that one of the most formidable, influential forces on electronic dance music has come to a close. The split has been confirmed today by their publicist, Kathryn Frazier, but no additional information is available at this time. Only time will tell what will emerge from the wrap-up of Daft Punk. I was listening to electronic dance music without even knowing it when I was listening to Jock Jams in the 90s. Fast forward to my senior year in high school and I had discovered Fatboy Slim. I have been listening to edm ever since and love writing about new sounds, good sounds, and the music that makes us move.
