MOTW: Brian Flinn – Signal Transmission 004 (12/26/2020)

This week’s MOTW comes from established trance producer Brian Flinn. His mix aired on Signal 004 and contains tracks from the likes of Irish producer Zondervan, Dustain Husain, and Spanish twins Yoshi & Razner. The mix also includes material from Brian Flinn himself: “Animate the Enemy” and his vs Kid Panel remix of The Darrow Chem Syndicate’s “The Bibber.” Before the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered shows, the extended mix trend was in full effect. This mix clocks in at a little over an hour and does in a little over 60 minutes what can be felt in much longer, extended performances. This is due in part to the selection and order of the tracks that put you back under the strobe lights, lasers, and thudding sound system. It is the perfect remedy to not being able to dance in person.

This Friday, Brian Flinn’s remix of Spy’s Redemption is set to be available for release from Extrema Global Music. The lead up to the drop isn’t the typical drum roll, followed by a standard drop, which is to be greatly appreciated in a time where the pause in our lives begs for creativity. The original mix from Spy has lush pads that underlay beautiful chord progressions. In comparison to Spy’s more melodic mix, Brian Flinn puts his own driving spin on Redemption and carries the track into the further, blissful, uplifting territory. Round out your weekend with his new release that can be purchased on Beatport.

I was listening to electronic dance music without even knowing it when I was listening to Jock Jams in the 90s. Fast forward to my senior year in high school and I had discovered Fatboy Slim. I have been listening to edm ever since and love writing about new sounds, good sounds, and the music that makes us move.
