Just a few hours before his US debut at Dreamsate SoCal, I was fortunate enough to be able to chat with Tibor Tomecko, also known as ReOrder. To listen to part of Skypatrol Dreamstate set click here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSjpJPzvM5c) and to know what ReOrder and I talked about, continue reading.
You’ve produced music since you were 14 years old, what was it that drew you into music at such a young age?
At 14, and before that, I was always trying to listen to music, I was always hiding listening to music. Then this German TV channel called Viva came through and there was this thing called Club Rotation where they would play trance music from people like Paul Van Dyk and all these guys. They are like my heroes! Once I heard Jason Nevins remix of It’s like That, very old track, I was like, “Wow! This is awesome! I would like to know how this is done, how it’s produced, I want to be part of this! I want to make music like this.” So, one of my friends bought this very old thing called Magix Music Maker and I just started to do my own beats back then, and it was so much fun.
When it comes to presenting a new track, do you usually just release them or do you like to test them on a crowds first?
First, I always test them on the crowds, I want to see how the crowds react and I want to see how it sounds in a big sound system. So, I finish the track and I won’t even send it to a label before test it out because if the people don’t even like it, you know, what is the point of releasing music that people do even like. So, I play it to them, if it makes them happy, I know this track will work.
You recently posted that it has been one year since you released your first album. I AM READY, how did you come up with the name for the album?
Basically, I was always scared to do an album because I always felt like I was not big enough, you know, like if you want to do an album, I think you need to have certain audience and then I said, OK, it think now I am ready with enough people who will listen and get my album. So, I put all of the styles that I love, trance and other genres and put it on my album and then released it and call it ‘I AM READY’ because now I was ready to put my music out there.
As Skypatrol, this will be your first time playing at Dreamstate SoCal. How do you guys normally prepare for a set and how do you consider what tracks will be played?
Well, for this one it is very special because after 5 years we didn’t tour as Skypatrol and also it is our first event in the US not only in Dreamstate, so we wanted to make this one really special. So we will be, of course, playing our biggest hits and for sure some tracks people never heard before. We never prepared the order of the tracks, we just go with the flow and with the crowd. It doesn’t matter how big the crowd is, we always want, you know, to surprise people with something special and just going with the vibe.
Any new projects we should be on the lookout for Skypatrol or as ReOrder?
There will be a lot of things coming with Skypatrol, as you know, we have A State of Trance 950 next year and for that we are preparing a whole new thing in the studio. So, there will be new tracks of course and also a remake of our biggest track ‘Folding Your Universe’. As for ReOrder, I’m having new tracks coming out on Armada Music, where I signed on recently as an artist, so there will be a new track, that I shouldn’t be talking about, but I have one track with Bo Bruce coming early in 2020 and I think you guys will like this one.
Final question, are there any artist you would like to work with in the near future?
Well I would like to work with Armin! He is my big hero, so hopefully that will happen. And I always wanted to work with Bo Bruce because I love her vocals, so when they told me I can do a track with her, that was one of my big dreams comes true.
