M83 popped up on our radar last week with the first new single in several years, minus his work for film, with the track Temple of Sorrow.  Off of the forthcoming new album, DSVII (due September 20), the album was recorded with only analog equipment, as a throwback to 2007’s Digital Shades Vol. 1.

The track begins with a mellow ambient feel until 3:38, when we get a chorus and guitar joining in, and a switch to an epic power ballad.  It’s definitely an M83 track, and we look forward to seeing the direction of the new album.  We get an extra treat with this track, with a short film before the music video, which was “inspired by the video game-esque music of DVSII.”  Directed by Bertrand Mandico, Extazus channels a 70s porno Zelda vibe, that is simply too weird and wonderful to look away from.
