On Friday, K?D released his newest single track titled “Zero One” through PRMD Music. While K?D has drastically gained popularity as of late due to his experimental sounds, heavy basslines, and genre-breaking tracks, we are unsure of how we feel about “Zero One”.
The track begins with a repetitive yet catchy intro and build, repeating the numbers zero & one in Japanese, creating tension and a robotic, futuristic vibe. The first drop is not what we expected, turning into what almost sounds like an early 1990’s low-effort techno track with new-age grime. However, after a brief replay of the build, K?D brings a new attitude to the track through the second drop. This section of the track transfers from a more aggressive bassline to a halftime beat that once again revisits early techno patterns, with a sound closer to what we have come to expect from K?D.
While it is entertaining to listen to, it seems to lack the energy and quality that K?D typically produces, and it leaves a lingering feeling that it was rushed for release. We look forward to K?D’s future tracks and hope that we will feel differently about his next productions.
