Spring of 2017 will bring a 4 day camping and music festival to the grounds of the Texas Renaissance Faire in Todd Mission, Texas. Yes you read that night. Insomniac is gracing Texas after a long absence. Pasquale Rotella made the announcement earlier today on Facebook, confirming what many had long since speculated since July.

Earlier this summer in July Pasquale posted a video from his Snapchat that panned over an area with a lot of trees and wide open green space. In the background you can hear someone talking, mentioning something being an hour away. As it turns out, the location of the event is situated about an hour outside of Houston. I live on the northwest side and it is a little under an hour without traffic to Todd Mission, Texas so I am ecstatic.

It’s been awhile since Insomniac brought its signature festival style to Texas. Nocturnal Wonderland would arrive in the Lonestar State in 2011 but make a quick exit in 2013 much to the dismay of Texas festival goers. Texas carried on without the presence of Insomniac and would go on to grow its own festival scene. Euphoria, Sun City Music Festival, Lights All Night, Something Wicked, Something Wonderful, the Unite As One: Beach Cleanup & Music Festival, and Art Outside are just some of the festivals that have made a mark on Texans and attendees from beyond the Texas border. The electronic dance music scene in Texas has grown considerably and we have all sorts of headlining acts passing through our major cities. For a long time, the California scene has been the gold standard for raving and festivals. It’s now Texas’s turn to come up. It was a long wait for Insomniac to come back, but I feel the wait will be worth it. I would be a liar if I were to say I was not excited about this bit of news, especially since the Facebook page for Dreamstate, Insomniac’s trance festival, made the following post today.

The Dreamstate brand has been expanded to new places around the world. With five stages set for Middelands, there is more than enough room for a Dreamstate stage. I for one would be head over heels to finally be able to go to a Dreamstate stage without having to get on an airplane. This festival is in our backyard, Texans. Let’s give Insomniac a warm welcome and ensure they come back again. I can’t wait! To receive festival info as it comes in, sign up at http://www.middlelands.com/.

I was listening to electronic dance music without even knowing it when I was listening to Jock Jams in the 90s. Fast forward to my senior year in high school and I had discovered Fatboy Slim. I have been listening to edm ever since and love writing about new sounds, good sounds, and the music that makes us move.
