I never thought I would say this, but I am love with an artist that makes dubstep and trap. Slushii is only 19 years old. 19 years old y’all. What the hell? Slushii emerged from relative obscurity, continuously churning out material and earning the respect of artists like Marshmello who reposted the producer’s music on Soundcloud. The cute slushie character in a cup has come to represent this young producer but now a little more is known about Slushii.

Per his Soundcloud, Slushii also goes by Julian S. Julian S stands for Julian Scanlan. Scanlan, who has been in the background producing for so long, has finally made it to a mainstage, recently performing with Marshmello at EDC New York.

On May 20th Slushii released Brain Freeze, a zany 7 track ride through dubstep, future bass, trap, and various incarnations of bass music. The album even flirts with hardstyle. Statik Shock, for example, gives me that hardstyle vibe. Sapient Dream and Some More are more chill, laid back tracks with Make Me Feel providing the polar opposite hype highs of bass music. Slushii has garnered a lot of attention in the last year, being recently signed to Monstercat last month. He debuted on Monstercat with his track Emptiness. If you want to go nuts, you can purchase it at Itunes, Bandcamp, or Beatport.

In addition to making his own killer tracks he has been releasing some pretty cool remixes, such as the remix for Galantis’s In My Head. You can download it from Hive here. Slushii is definitely one to watch.

I was listening to electronic dance music without even knowing it when I was listening to Jock Jams in the 90s. Fast forward to my senior year in high school and I had discovered Fatboy Slim. I have been listening to edm ever since and love writing about new sounds, good sounds, and the music that makes us move.
