Electronic dance music has come a long way from its inception. It has gone from being a fringe music interest to something more widely accepted in popular society. Corporations have taken notice and are signing deals with well known faces in electronic dance music, most notably Tiesto and Martin Garixx who signed a deal with Sprite to push its #7x7UP campaign. Now comes an award ceremony dedicated solely to the genre: the Electronic Music Awards & Foundation Awards ceremony.
According to the Fox Network, the awards show will showcase “electronic music’s leading artists, creatives, executives and visionaries (to be announced). Among those being honored are the early trailblazers and legends of electronic music, as well as the top-trending acts of today.” Variety reports that the awards show will include what others normally offer: coverage on the red carpet, interviews, and live performances from people in the industry.
Paul Oakenfold along with TV4 Entertainment’s Paul Duddridge and Jon Cody will reportedly produce the awards show that will be taped April 14 at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles. No word yet on who has signed on to participate in this awards show, but you can bet we at the Department of Dance will keep an eye on this.
The Electronic Music Awards & Foundation ceremony is set to air on Saturday, April 23 at 8 p.m. on FOX Network.
I was listening to electronic dance music without even knowing it when I was listening to Jock Jams in the 90s. Fast forward to my senior year in high school and I had discovered Fatboy Slim. I have been listening to edm ever since and love writing about new sounds, good sounds, and the music that makes us move.
