When I first saw the announcement for this tour on my Facebook feed, I damn near lost it. If you’ve ever been given the chance to attend an ‘Open to Close,’ set for something akin to Armin Only or Tiesto in Concert, then you understand that these shows rarely come around. With that being said, I had high expectations to finally see a duo that had been on my bucket list for quite some time. They were most definitely worth the wait. I arrived at Stereo Live around 10pm, because I didn’t want to miss too much of the foundation that they set for the night. The vibe was great from the start. One thing that can be hit or miss for me these days at shows is the vibe. The vibe of an event is essential, and on this night, the vibe at Stereo was proper.
One of the first things I noticed early on in the set was how beautiful their music is; it was reminiscent of how beautiful dance music used to be in general. G&D are fantastic at what they do, so some of their more known vocal tracks are anthems known the world over. However, I am not talking about those tracks right now. I’m talking about the sheer quality of music selected to begin telling a Fantasia-esque progressive trance fairytale.
The Department of Dance was out in full force that night, joined by friends and family and, as we all know, company makes the evening. Furthermore, Gabriel & Dresden tracks have served as the soundtrack to epic nights for a certain generation of candy kids. Hearing “Tracking Treasure Down,” or “As The Rush Comes,” for the first time is not something you will ever forget. They are beautiful tracks that evoke emotion, overshadowing one’s senses. They remind you of your first sunrise drive home from an after party, feeling like you had found the meaning of life the previous night. Those associations made me appreciate being able to experience these songs with so many friends who have danced the night away with me on many occasions.
To be honest, words truly cannot do this show justice. Go to their Soundcloud, listen to the set, and be prepared for your face to hurt from smiling so hard. Just re-listening to the set has me feeling like I’m on cloud nine all over again. I’m so grateful to have be given the opportunity to attend this incredible show, especially with the whole gang at the DoD.
Check you later,
Angel
