For those of you wandering overseas for the Monegros Groove Parade (formerly the Monegros Desert Festival) in northern Spain in July, we have some bad news.  We just received a press release that the event has been cancelled due to a land ownership dispute.  This festival, which bills itself as the original desert festival (it’s been running 20 years!), was slated to have a pretty stellar international lineup:

Andres Campo, Anja Schneider, Apollonia, Art Department, Ben Klock, Ben UFO, Bicep, Blawan, Boris, Carl Cox, Claude VonStroke, Dave Clarke, De La Swing, Dixon, DVS1, Eats Everything, Ellen Alien, George Privatti, Guti, Ion Pananides b2b Alex Pott, Isolee, Jamie Jones, John Acquaviva, Joseph Capriati, Len Faki, Levon Vincent, Loco Dice, Maceo Plex, Mar-T, Marc Maya, Marcel Dettmann, Marco Carola, Mario Biani, Matador, Matthew Dear, Matthew Herbert, Maya Jane Coles, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Nicole Moudaber, Optimo, Oscar Mulero, Paco Osuna, Pan-Pot, Recondite, Ricardo Villalobos, Richy Ahmed, Rodhad, Russ Yallop, Seth Troxler, Skream, Tale Of Us, The Martinez Brothers, tINI, and Toni Varga.

“MONEGROS SPAIN – GROOVE PARADE 2015 CANCELLED.

It is with great sadness that the Monegros Festival team announces the cancellation of the Groove Parade 2015 programmed for July 17& 18.

After 20 years since the first Monegros Party, this will be the first summer without a festival being celebrated.

This decision, not taken lightly, is due to the refusal regarding the use of the land by one part of the estate owning the grounds where the event has been celebrated since its beginnings. Faced with the unlikelihood of successful negotiations and the uncertainty regarding a favourable legal decision, we have decided to react in what we consider the most prudential and responsible way to avoid risks and problems for all parts involved: public, artists and the organisation itself.

We want to express a most heartfelt gratitude to the over 15,000 thousand people who have purchased their tickets and the 50 artists who confirmed their presence in the festival. All tickets will be reimbursed and the cost will be returned into the accounts used to pay for the tickets in a period of no more than 7 days.”
Bummer.  This looked like it would have been a great festival!
