Thanks to Bassdrive Bookings and local DnB crew Everyday Junglist, a fresh face from across the pond made another appearance here in Texas last weekend. Bailey (aka Bailey Intabeats) of London, UK made the first stop of his North American tour on Friday night, August 8th, at Republic Live in the middle of downtown Austin. The radio giant is well known across the globe as a Ministry of Sound Radio presenter and has won many awards for his work as a former BBC Radio 1Xtra and BBC Radio 1 presenter. Oh yeah- and resident DJ for one of Drum and Bass’s monster labels, Metalheadz. No big deal.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get there until a little bit after Bailey had gone on but the vibes were already thick and the dance floor was full of bouncing bodies with bobbing heads. He was laying down an energetic set that spun a nice array of sounds from ragga one minute then onto something techier, into female vocals. Ahh, authentic Bailey style. Nom. Local support included PSYDiPHECTs and A-Chop (who said that was the best set of his own he’s ever spun), both of Everyday Junglist. Hosting the night was FullEffect MC of Gritsy (Houston)/Everyday Junglist and MC Mighty Monkz of All Mighty Productions (San Antonio).
This show ended slightly smaller than expected but from all the whistles and cheers accompanying the booms blasting out of the club you’d have never known. That’s one of the awesome things about DnB shows- smaller crowds just make shows feel more intimate and, if the air is right, are fully capable of getting just as hyped as a fully packed venue. Bailey’s set had a bit of a classic feel to it, while still remaining fresh and in your face. Definitely a refreshing twist that the crowd went right for along with him.
This was another great show put on by passionate people, dedicated to the DnB scene here in Texas. If you were lucky enough to attend this one and want to experience more like it, don’t sleep because it’s coming up quick! Catch DJ SS at Sonar DnB on Tuesday, August 19th at Plush ATX in downtown Austin.
