#MusicVideoMonday — The 5 Must-Sees of 2015

They say the music video is a dying art. Maybe they’ve become diluted across the broader spectrum of the way we consume music compared to decades past, but the creativity of little one-song soundtrack films still exists, and much so in electronic music. These five that came out in 2015 are certainly no exception.

#5: Galantis — Peanut Butter Jelly

This video proves one thing that we know to be true in the electronic dance music world: You don’t have to be a supermodel to look gorgeous in your own way; just put on a smile and let the dance moves that come from within happen. Directed by Dano Cerny, this refreshing re-retro video explodes with joy and personality. You’ll never grocery shop the same.

#4. Yogi & Skrillex (feat. Pusha T, Moody Good, TrollPhace) — Burial

Skrillex haters can say what they want, but the man has been contributing a healthy dose of creative weirdness in music videos for years now. Not only was this track the jam in 2015, but this video was unlike anything that had come out all year. A crazy gang of purge-like double-jointed dancers, Dennis Rodman, fire, destruction…this video, directed by Grant Singer, is delightfully rife with bizarre grit.

#3: Getter — Headsplitter

In another OWSLA installation of 2015, Getter takes us on a burger-induced trip in full mixed-media glory. If you’re not familiar with director Liam Underwood, you’re missing out on a majorly creative visionary who has directed videos for Modestep, Knife Party, Skrillex, and more. The video for “Headsplitter” makes you question not only where you get your next hamburger, but also perhaps the psychedelic potential that lies behind assumed reality.

#2: Kill the Noise (feat. AWOLNATION & R.City) — Kill It 4 The Kids

And in more questionable hamburgers, this stop-motion video for Kill The Noise directed by Chris Ullens delivers a political punch that speaks for itself. Good, good…let the satire flow through you…

#1: Delta Heavy — Ghost

He was just trying to help, this poor, sweet relic of the 90s. But you all cast him aside as bothersome and unnecessary. Now he’s back for vengeance in the chaotic landscape of 2015. In this video, director Chris Bristow humanizes Clippy the Microsoft Word paperclip while also pointing out how utterly stupid we can be on our journey through advancing technology. You go on ahead, Clippy, and watch the world burn right into 2016.

Stay tuned for more #MusicVideoMonday posts this year!
