Shawn Wasabi is a new innovative artist that has risen to fame from performing live and using a variety of dj tech tools at his disposal to produce music. Some of these tools include but are not limited to midi fighters (a custom Midi Fighter 64 was specially designed for him by Micheal Mitchell), the Casio XW-PD1 drum pad, the AKAI APC Key 25, and the M-Audio Trigger Finger MIDI Controller. Shawn Serrano, the real name of Shawn Wasabi, was raised in the Bay Area, Salinas to be exact. Taking a lot of inspiration from dank memes, video games, and Japaense culture, Shawn Wasabi takes a creative approach to making music. Back in April, Shawn Wasabi’s gear was stolen in San Francisco and he put out a call to action for any help in hunting it down.
Now Wasabi is back, having purchased a new computer and a midi fighter. Wasabi sampled music from Gamecube’s Animal Crossing and created the tune below!
It sucks when people steal from the hard working. Instead of inventing their own hustle, they take from others. While many would be resigned to mope about it, Wasabi did one better and is making do with what he has, not letting thieves stop his grind.
