“A Little Help” does a lot of good

Last month, Stereo Live played host to “A Little Help From My Friends”, an annual charity event created by Houston local DJ heavyweight, Matthew Dunn. This marks the 4th year for the show and like its name suggests, the show features Matthew as well as a host of his friends and associates within the Houston area dance music community.

This year’s episode was the 3rd that selected local area non kill shelter, Friends For Life Animal Rescue and Adoption Center (www.adoptfriends4life.org), as its beneficiary. Friends of Dunn (and anyone on his social media feeds) know that the furry four legged creatures hold a special place in his life, so the fact that the show has repeatedly selected the local shelter as its recipient of fundraising, is no surprise.

Everything about this year’s show was bigger. With Stereo Live and Nightculture donating the use of the entire facility as well as a whole host of added production from the likes of Colorwave Lighting (who came all the way from San Antonio to volunteer extra lighting and video walls) and JD3 Lasers, Stereo never looked better.

The night featured three areas music from many of Houston’s top DJ talent as well as the always popular silent auction of goods and services. This has always been one of the core elements of the show as there are usually some VERY highly sought after items up for bid.

The real show stopper for this year’s event was the addition of a bachelor and bachelorette auction where friends of Dunn (both male and female), were put up on the auction block for the evening’s cause. Each participant provided a date/outing and was then brought out on stage for bidding. The results were hilarious and pretty much what you’d expect, with the ladies bringing in the majority of the haul.

When the dust settled and the cash counted up, this year’s “A Little Help” raised a whopping $3,200.00, more than double the previous year.

The night was full of nothing but smiles and good feelings as well and when Matthew was thanked by a few party goers for putting on the “party for a purpose”, he was quoted as stating “I’m just a guy who loves animals, and who happens to have a lot of really great and generous friends.”

It should be noted that Dunn dedicated this year’s show to his Great Dane, Bella, who passed shortly before the event due to complications with bone cancer. Check out the after movie below !
